My daughter's school has a science fair every year. Every student from first to fifth grade participate. For grades three through five, the science project is a big part of their final grade for their science class. The topic for the project is up to the student. They need to present their project on a presentation board and for the upper grades, they also need to write a written report. This year my daughter did a project on sun prints. Every day she made a sun print by the window where there's a lot of sunlight and one by the kitchen with little sunlight. She also made note of the time of day and the weather to see if these factors affected the darkness of the prints. It's a lot of work but helps teach children scientific reporting from an early age. 娘の学校では毎年3月に全学年に渡って科学博覧会が行われます。 1年生から5年生の生徒が参加します。3年生から5年生の学年は博覧会で展示するものが科学の成績に大きく反映します。 しかし、発表する内容は生徒任せで生徒それぞれの個性が発表に現れてとても面白いです。 科学実験の内容、手順、試験結果を表した大きな展示表を提出します。 娘はサンプリントといって太陽の光を使ってプリントを作る実験をしました。 ５日間に渡って太陽の光が強い窓辺と太陽の光があまり当たらないキッチンのカウンターでサンプリントを作りました。 プリントを作った時間と外の天気も記録して太陽の光の量とプリントの質の関連について発表しました。 親子ともに大変でしたが、娘にとって科学実験と手順についてとてもいい勉強になりました。
