I took my kids up to Westchester, NY to visit friends who recently bought a house there. Many families in New York City decide to move upstate after they have kids, looking for bigger properties and safer schools. My friends just had their second son and found a beautiful 4 bedroom house with a huge yard about two hours drive from Manhattan. Unlike Tokyo, you don't need to drive very far to feel like you're out in the country. There are beautiful hills and country landscape just an hour drive out of the city. Since we were up in the country, we took the kids to a city-owned farm where people are encouraged to go see farm animals, like cows, horses, pigs, goats, chickens, sheep and even donkeys. It was a great experience for my city kids. 子供達を連れてニューヨーク州のウェスチェスターに家を買った友達のところに遊びに行きました。 多くの子供が居る家庭はNYCからより大きな家と安全な学校を求めて地方に引っ越します。 私の友達も次男坊が生まれて間もなくマンハッタンから２時間ぐらいのところの大きなお庭が付いている４LDKに引っ越しました。 東京と違ってニューヨークは一時間も車を走らせれば郊外に出ます。 美しい丘や田園地区が広がっています。田舎に来ていたので子供達を市民団体が運営している農園に連れて行きました。牛、馬、豚、ヤギ、鶏、羊やロバまでいました。 都心で育っている私たちの子供にとって良い刺激になりました。
