My daughter finished first grade and will be starting second grade in September at a new school. There was a lot of drama at her school this year. The Department of Education decided to close the school because the students' test performance did not meet their requirements. The school opened only a few years ago and the scores showed improvement but not enough. We don't live in a very good school district and I found that this school had dedicated teachers and high potential so I was very disappointed to hear the news. Fortunately, my daughter had taken a Gifted & Talented exam last fall. Gifted & Talented programs are accelerated classes for children that show advanced levels of verbal and cognitive ability. She tested high enough that she was eligible for entering a Gifted & Talented program and she was allotted a seat at a school close to our house. I am relieved that she got into a good school close to home. Now we can enjoy our summer vacation without the stress of worrying where she will go to school next year. 娘の夏休みが始まり、小学校の一年目を無事終え、９月から新しい学校に行く事になりました。 今年は娘の学校で色々とドラマがありました。 去年の年末、当校生徒のテストのスコアが教育省の基準に満たないため学校を廃校するという知らせがありました。 数年前に開校したばかりで生徒の成績は上昇していたのですが、教育省の設定した数値に満たなかったそうです。 今住んでいる場所は学区が悪く、他と比べて先生達は熱心で将来性を感じていたので非常に残念でした。 幸い去年の秋に娘にGifted & Talentedの試験を受けさせていました。 Gifted & Talentedは学力の優れた子ども達の為の上級クラスです。 運良く３月頃に娘はGifted & Talentedのプログラムに入学可能との知らせがあり、先月家の近くにこのプログラムがある学校に無事入学する事ができました。 家の近くで優れたプログラムに入れた事に大変感謝し、ホッとしています。 これで秋に入る学校を心配せずに楽しい夏休みを過ごす事が出来ます。
