Last week was Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a day where we give thanks for all that we are fortunate to have. Family, friends, health and so forth. These past months have been very difficult. A lot of bad news, both personally and on the news. We had a fire in our building earlier in the month that reminded us that every material thing we own can be taken away from us in a moment. I also found out that our friends lost their two teenage children in a car accident a couple weeks ago. And, friends and family are going through difficult marriages. As we grow older, we hope that we have the wisdom to understand how things work in the world. But most of the time we are reminded that life is complex, chaotic, messy and we don't have the answers. But, once a year its nice to sit around and eat with friends and family to give thanks and appreciate the things that we do have and sometimes take for granted. 先週、感謝祭を祝いました。感謝祭は一年に一度感謝を捧げる日です。それは家族や友達、健康など人によって様々です。 私個人に取ってここ一ヶ月は辛いニュースや出来事が重なりました。個人的にも世界のニュースを見ても暗いニュースが多い様に思います。 今月のコラムの第１話で話しました様に、アパートで火事がありました。一瞬の内に家の物がすべて消えてしまう事も可能だと言う事を思い知らされました。 次に主人の幼なじみが高校生の息子を二人交通事故で亡くしたと知らされました。 さらに身近なところで友達や親戚の結婚生活が不安定で離婚するかもしれないなどという事も聞きました。 年を取ると共に世の中の仕組みを理解し、賢くなっていると思いたいのですが、大半人生は難しく、混沌としていて答えが見つからないものなんだと感じています。 しかし、こんな混沌している世の中だからこそ、一年に一回家族と友達を囲んで感謝する事の大切さを感じた特別な感謝祭でした。
